One line the client can read in three seconds: on track, at risk, or blocked. Everything below is the evidence.
Done this period
Real tasks in plain language, not tool names. "Rebuilt the pricing cards" beats "Figma, 2h". Add time only if you bill by the hour.
In progress
Shows momentum between milestones. Include an expected finish so nobody has to ask.
Next period
Sets expectations before they set their own. Two or three items is plenty.
Blockers and decisions
The section that saves projects. Name what you need, who owns it, and the date it starts costing time.
Notes
Where scope creep gets recorded early, calmly, in writing before it becomes an invoice argument.
